Bio D: A New Era of Vitamin D Supplementation for Swine and Poultry

by Pio Cyriel Conchada, DVM

Huvepharma®, a company with main headquarters from Bulgaria known to develop products from strain to shelf through fermentation has unveiled Bio D for better and enhanced livestock health. The two-day event in Luzon, Philippines organized by the technical team of Nuevo Milenio, Inc. (NMI) was successfully conducted at Blue Sapphire, Lipa City, Batangas on March 25, 2025 for South Luzon clients, and in Fortune Hongkong Restaurant, Malolos City, Bulacan on March 26, 2025 for North Luzon clients in partnership with TriAccess Veterinary Trading Corp.

Mr. Wouter Van der Veken, the resource speaker from Huvepharma® stressed during his presentation the importance of vitamin D supplementation for livestock. Bio D, the 25-OH D3 which is the sole vitamin D in the world developed through bacterial fermentation from natural ingredients has two times higher bioavailability compared with other forms of vitamin D supplements currently available in the market, which means that Bio D is more potent compared to the others. In addition, the 25-OH D3 in Bio D has an equivalence of 80 IU vitamin D3 per ug of 25-OH D3 which is twice as high in comparison to other 25-OH D3 derivatives. Moreover, the Bio D metabolites act as the reserve form of vitamin D in the body which allows the animal to self-regulate the conversion to 1,25-(OH)2D3 as required. Lastly, Bio D can safeguard the animals’ needs for vitamin D even if the liver is impaired since its metabolic pathway does not rely on the liver.

The seminar on Bio D has brought together some swine and poultry industry experts, farm owners, nutritionists, and veterinarians to learn more about the product giving them interests to try and use Bio D in their animal production. The Bulacan Egg Producers Association (BEPA) in North Luzon and various associations from South Luzon have attended the said event.
